DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza (AP) — An international team of doctors visiting a hospital in central Gaza was prepared for the worst. But the gruesome impact Israel’s war against Hamas is having on Palestinian children still left them stunned. These gut-wrenching casualties were described to The Associated Press by Tanya Haj-Hassan, a pediatric intensive-care doctor from Jordan, following a 10-hour overnight shift at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the town of Deir al-Balah. After nearly six months of war, Gaza’s health sector has been decimated. In the early stages of the war, Israel severely limited the entry of food, fuel and medical supplies into Gaza.

LITTLETON, Colorado, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Mainland Europe's two largest economies have reached key power price deals this month that should set the stage for increased power consumption by industry from 2024 onwards. Higher power and industrial output will in turn likely generate higher total emissions, even amid ongoing efforts to deploy more clean energy throughout Europe's power systems. Both power deals aim to reduce costs and boost energy supplies to households and businesses next year, and will likely spur a rise in total power consumption across Europe following a rare contraction in Europe's power use so far in 2023. Power output from fossil fuels also dropped by around 10% through October, while power generation from clean sources rose by 3.6% to result in a 2.4% decline in Europe's total power generation through the first 10 months of the year. Europe's power generation and power sector emissions dip in 2023Europe's power emissions look set to rebound in 2024 if overall power output increases, as more generation from power plants fuelled by natural gas and coal will be needed alongside greater generation from renewable sources to ensure higher stable power supplies to consumers.

Over the last two years, the richest 1% of people have accumulated close to two-thirds of all new wealth created around the world, a new report from Oxfam says. A total of $42 trillion in new wealth has been created since 2020, with $26 trillion, or 63%, of that being amassed by the top 1% of the ultra-rich, according to the report. The remaining 99% of the global population collected just $16 trillion of new wealth, the global poverty charity says. It suggests that the pace at which wealth is being created has sped up, as the world's richest 1% amassed around half of all new wealth over the past 10 years. It's time we demolish the convenient myth that tax cuts for the richest result in their wealth somehow 'trickling down' to everyone else," Bucher said.

Oxfam's calling on governments to impose much higher taxes on the super-rich to redistribute wealth. That's twice as much as what the rest of the 99% managed to amass in new wealth, Oxfam said citing Credit Suisse data. Just four cents of every tax dollar come from wealth taxes, according to Oxfam's analysis based on data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Oxfam published its report just as the World Economic Forum commences on Monday in Davos, Switzerland.

The company hosted roughly 500 suppliers virtually and at its Union, N.J., headquarters for a two-hour summit in which executives laid out their strategy for resuscitating the chain, which has been reeling from a failed overhaul under prior management that led to plunging sales, a cash crisis and a leadership vacuum.
